Diesel Fuel Additives questions and answers
-
What is the difference between 5007 and 5757, and which should I use in winter?
Use Primrose 5757 Winter Klenz ID for winter: its data sheet lists anti-gel, flow improver and anti-icing additives that do not appear on the 5007 Power Klenz ID data sheet, and it helps prevent diesel gelling and icing. Both clean and prevent injector deposits (IDID) and contain a cetane improver, and both are used at 1:1000 for regular treatment (5007 up to 1:250 for quick cleaning, 5757 up to 1:500).
-
Which Primrose additive raises the cetane number of diesel fuel?
Primrose 405C Power-Master Plus is a concentrated cetane improver that typically raises cetane by 3 to 4 numbers at 1 gallon per 3,000 gallons of diesel (1:3000). 5007 and 5757 pair IDID cleaning additives with the Xtreme Torque cetane improver (4 cetane numbers, or 40 points, in responsive fuels at their optimum treat rate). 405C is for diesel only: its cetane improver acts as an octane destroyer in gasoline.
-
Which Primrose product cleans a diesel storage tank or polishes stored fuel?
For steel fuel storage tanks, use Primrose 3895 Concentrated Fuel Tank Cleaner, which disperses sludge and water emulsions and reduces tank corrosion: 1 gallon per 1,000 gallons as a shock treatment, then 1 gallon per 2,000 to 4,000 gallons quarterly. Primrose 410 Hi-Flame polishes fuel and cleans tanks at 1 gallon per 1,000 to 2,000 gallons of No. 2 diesel and also treats heating oil and waste oil.
-
What should I add to diesel fuel to kill bacteria or algae?
Primrose MP8 Microbicide kills bacteria and fungi in fuel, and Primrose notes that any algae present will also be killed. Signs of growth include black, brown or green slime, a rotten eggs smell and frequent filter clogging. MP8 is an EPA-registered pesticide for commercial and industrial use only and may exceed the federal 15 ppm sulfur standard for diesel in 2007 and newer vehicles and 2011 and newer nonroad engines. Always follow the product label directions.
-
Which Primrose additive cleans diesel fuel injectors?
Primrose 5007 Power Klenz ID cleans out and prevents internal diesel injector deposits (IDID) in high pressure common rail engines and may also be used in traditional diesels; use 1:250 for the first two tanks, then 1:1000. 5757 Winter Klenz ID also cleans and prevents IDID, and Primrose recommends 406 Injector Perfector in diesel fuel for fuel system cleanliness and rust protection.
