  • Which Primrose diesel additive should I use in off-road diesel equipment?

    Primrose 5007 Power Klenz ID cleans and prevents internal injector deposits (IDID) and improves lubricity and cetane in ULSD, while 405C Power-Master Plus is a concentrated cetane improver used at 1:3000 in all diesel engines. Primrose says both comply with federal low sulfur requirements for diesel motor vehicles and nonroad (off-road) engines. For winter gelling and icing protection, Primrose offers 5757 Winter Klenz ID.

  • What is the difference between 5007 and 5757 diesel additives?

    Primrose 5757 Winter Klenz ID is a winterized premium diesel additive: its data sheet lists anti-gel, flow improver and anti-icing additives, and none of those appear on the 5007 Power Klenz ID data sheet. Both clean and prevent internal injector deposits (IDID) and contain cetane improvers. Primrose's winter bulletin says No. 2 diesel treated with 5757 at 1:1000 can replace a 50/50 mix of No. 1 and No. 2 diesel, though fuels differ in how they respond.

  • What NLGI grade grease should I use on construction equipment?

    Primrose especially recommends 327C Armor Plate with Moly-D, an NLGI No. 3 grease, for heavy duty construction and mining equipment in temperatures or operating conditions above freezing. Below freezing, Primrose recommends 327 Armor Plate with Moly-D in the No. 2 or No. 1 grade, and the 327 data sheet names the softer 327-1 (NLGI No. 1) for pumping at subfreezing temperatures and for automatic lubrication.

  • What lubricant should I use on open gears, chains and wire rope?

    Primrose 555 Armor Plate with Moly-D is an NLGI No. 2 open gear grease for exposed gears such as dragline and power shovel gears, and Primrose says it will not pound out, sling off or wash out. For chains, sprockets, cables and wire rope, Primrose 548 Armor Plate with Moly-D is an oil-type lubricant that goes on wire rope and cable straight from the container, with no heating.

  • What should I use for bacteria or sludge in a diesel storage tank?

    Primrose MP8 Microbicide, an EPA-registered pesticide for commercial and industrial use only, kills bacteria and fungi in fuels used in bulk storage tanks, locomotives, boats and ships, farm and construction equipment and diesel generators. Primrose warns it may exceed the federal 15 ppm sulfur standard for diesel fuel required in model year 2011 and newer nonroad engines. For sludge in steel storage tanks, use 3895 Concentrated Fuel Tank Cleaner. Always follow the product label directions.
